Art Conservation and Picture Restoration
Works of Art in all mediums will suffer damage over time, whether from atmospheric conditions or from physical. Conservation is the art of delaying the process of decay by controlling the conditions that your Work of Art are expose to. This is mainly through Archival Framing techniques. However, Conservation of Art is a relatively new idea and most Artworks have been mishandled and inappropriately framed and housed in the past. It is often required to de-acidify these Works of Arts and remove inferior backboards. Often works on canvas have become so brittle that the canvas has torn. Usually Artworks will have some form of yellowing whether on paper or canvas and require to undergo a process of cleaning.
